CNN’s ‘United Shades of America’ features Knox News’ Angela Dennis

The stories, culture, and history of Black Appalachia are getting a national spotlight on CNN, thanks in part to our very own Angela Dennis.

Dennis covers social justice, race, and equity for Knox News. But she also co-hosts the East Tennessee PBS Black in Appalachia podcast along with Enkeshi El-Amin. The podcast has received critical acclaim for sharing the Black stories in an area that has often been depicted as “rural, rugged, and white.”

W. Kamau Bell, comedian, and host of the CNN documentary series “United Shades of America,” is a fan of Black in Appalachia and asked to feature the podcast on his show’s seventh season. The episode airs at 10 p.m. ET Sunday.

“It felt like an accomplishment, it felt like the work that we were doing was reaching far and wide,” El-Amin told Knox News about being featured on the show.
