Arsenal could now reportedly have a chance to sell goalkeeper Alex Runarsson this summer, with clubs in Turkey now interested in signing the Icelandic international.

According to the Evening Standard, teams from the European division are keeping an eye on Runarsson, who Arsenal are keen to sell this summer two years after the keeper joined the north London side from Ligue 1, with the 27-year-old spending last season out on loan with Belgian side OH Leuven.

As per the report, though, Turkish sides could only move to sign Runarsson on loan, whilst Arsenal are looking to sell the former Dijon star for good this summer, with Mikel Arteta eager to offload the final bits of deadwood still lingering in the Gunners squad ahead of the new season.

Runarsson joined Arsenal in 2020 in a deal worth £1.8m as per the Guardian, yet despite playing just six games in total for the Gunners, the keeper was heavily criticised for his performances, namely in a 4-1 League Cup defeat against Manchester City where the shot-stopper made two errors leading to goals.

As a result, Runarsson was subject to abuse on social media, resulting in the keeper stating in an interview last year that he ‘100%’ wants to leave north London, and the Icelandic international could now have a chance if Arsenal decides to sell the 27-year-old to Turkey.

Indeed, with Lucas Torreira on the verge of signing for Galatasaray, Runarsson could be the next Arsenal misfit to move to Turkey this summer, and although clubs are more open to a loan move for the Scandinavian, the former Dijon star is much better off leaving the north London side for good this summer.

Runarsson’s Arsenal career has been a blur, to say the least, and after two whirlwind years in England, both the player and the club should realise that this summer is the time for the keeper to leave north London for good, even if that means buying out the Icelandic international’s contract.

After all, unlike other fringe players at Arsenal, Runarsson joined the club on a low wage and for a tiny transfer fee, and with Bernd Leno signing for Fulham and Torreira close to leaving as well, these sales could allow the Gunners to buy the keeper out of his contract to allow him to find a new club for good this summer.
